Arsenic & Old Lace is a play by the American playwright Joseph Kesselring. This comedy, set in the 30s, revolves around 2 elderly aunts who ‘save’ lonely, old men by poisoning them with their elderberry wine, laced with arsenic. Their nephew Teddy believes he is Theodore Roosevelt and digs graves for them in the ‘Panama’ Canal which is their celler.
The elderly aunts need day dresses and full funeral attire, while Teddy has a safari suit for when he goes digging. We have American police outfits too for officer Klein and his colleagues. A fun play with lots of period costumes.
